Jets Waive Disappointing Former First-Round Pick Coples

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Quinton Coples’ career with the Jets is over.

The team waived the former first round pick on Monday, a day after he played just five snaps during the 24-17 loss to the Houston Texans.

Coples, who was selected 16th overall back in 2012 out of North Carolina, struggled to find his niche with the Jets, both under current head coach Todd Bowles and his predecessor, Rex Ryan.

Despite being a physical specimen at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds, Coples always seemed to be playing out of position at outside linebacker and seemed a poor fit in the complex 3-4 defense Bowles installed, as he saw the field less and less over the last few weeks.
