The Jets’ biggest free-agent signing wasn’t a quarterback, which didn’t please their many quarterback-starved fans. It was a cornerback, Trumaine Johnson, who signed a five-year, $72.5-million deal, with $34 million guaranteed.
Johnson, after being franchised the previous two seasons by the Rams, hit free agency looking for the right fit on the field and a lucrative contract. Johnson got both. He can play man-to-man in the Jets’ 3-4 scheme, and he signed one of the biggest deals among defensive players on the market.
“I’m a game changer, I’m a playmaker,” Johnson said in a conference call Thursday.
