As soon as Darnold trotted onto the field for his first practice, the rookie hazing began – albeit in a very mild form. The Jets 89 other players all slow clapped Darnold's arrival, then the defense chirped him a few times throughout the day. It was all in good spirits, though, and head coach Todd Bowles said after practice that Darnold can probably expect some more of that in the days to come, too.
"Anybody that comes in late and holds out as a draft pick and makes a bunch of money is going to catch a ribbing from the team, and this is only the start of it," Bowles said.
