Jets to hire Brant Boyer as special teams coordinator

SAN FRANCISCO — The Jets finally found their replacement for Bobby April.

A source confirmed to Newsday that the Jets plan to hire Colts assistant special teams coach Brant Boyer to be their new special teams coordinator.

Jets coach Todd Bowles fired April on Jan. 6 after just one year on the staff. But it took the organization almost a month to find his replacement.

Boyer, a former NFL linebacker with the Dolphins, Jaguars and Browns (from 1994-2003), has been the Colts special teams assistant since 2012. Before that, he was a training camp coach with the Browns in 2009 and Giants in 2010.
