The Jets are hiring Adam Gase as their next head coach, a source tells Newsday's Al Iannazzone.
Gase, the former Dolphins head coach, replaces Todd Bowles, who was fired on Dec. 31. Bowles went 24-40 in four seasons with the team, failing to make the playoffs in any of them.
Jets general manger Mike Maccagnan and CEO Christopher Johnson had expressed interest in hiring a head coach who could help develop young quarterback Sam Darnold, who just completed his rookie season.
Gase went 23-25 in three seasons and made the playoffs once. But Gase has experience as a head coach and working with quarterbacks.
