John Morton is out.
The Jets’ offensive coordinator has been fired, ESPN reported Wednesday, after a 5-11 season in which the offense ranked 28th in total offense in the NFL.
Morton had been hired last season off the Saints’ staff and led an offense that actually produced better than expected under veteran Josh McCown. However, young quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg have not shown real progress, with only Petty making an appearance this past season — and not a quality one.
The report listed deposed Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley and Jets QB coach Jeremy Bates as potential replacements.
