He muffed a punt earlier in the preseason. And on Friday night, he fumbled away a kickoff return. Kickoffs were supposed to be Cannon's strength. (He didn't return punts in college.) Cannon's struggles don't necessarily mean he is going to get cut and stashed on the practice squad. But it looks like Andre Roberts has the inside track for both return jobs. Cannon is still a developing player.
He didn't make any insane plays Friday night, but he also didn't make any glaring mistakes, in terms of ball security. And Jets coach Todd Bowles has made it clear that ball security is paramount for a return man.
