Jets still chasing repeat of Joe Namath’s 11 weeks of greatness

Think about some of the iconic quarterback names in pro football.
Otto Graham was the Browns’ quarterback for 10 seasons, and won seven championships. Johnny Unitas quarterbacked the Colts for 17 seasons, won three titles. Bart Starr? Sixteen years, five titles. You get the idea.

When you talk about Joe Namath — whom the Jets have tried, fruitlessly, to replace for 40 years — you are talking, in essence, about 11 games.

On Oct. 13, 1968, the Jets lost, 21-13, to a bad Broncos team. Namath threw five interceptions. Two weeks earlier, in an inexplicable 37-35 loss to a Buffalo team that would finish 1-13, Namath had thrown five picks, three of which were returned for touchdowns.
