ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- New York Jets star defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson suffered a potentially serious ankle injury and was carted to the locker room in the third quarter Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Wilkerson's return officially is listed as doubtful, according to the Jets.
Wilkerson, the team's leading sacker, was in considerable pain as he was helped off the field. His right leg was twisted in a pile-up and he went down awkwardly.
The timing is terrible for Wilkerson, who is in the final year of his contract. He recorded a career-high 12 sacks and was named to his first Pro Bowl.
