You can never have enough quarterbacks, apparently.
The Jets now have five signal-callers on their 90-man roster after signing Jake Heaps on Monday following his rookie minicamp tryout.
The Jets, who invited 24 players to try out over the weekend, also signed fullback J.C. Copeland. In corresponding moves, they released undrafted free-agent cornerback Greg Henderson and free-agent safety Demarkus Perkins.
Heaps joins Jets quarterbacks Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Simms and fourth-round pick Bryce Petty.
Heaps had an impressive high school career, leading Skyline High School to three 4A Washington state titles (2007-09). He bounced around during his college career, however, playing two seasons at BYU before transferring to Kansas, where he played for former Jets offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.
