The Jets are beginning training camp Friday, with their first practice. And quarterback Sam Darnold remains absent, as his contract standoff with the organization continues.
Darnold, whom the Jets drafted third overall this year, is expected to battle with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater in camp for the starting job. But a prolonged camp absence could seriously hurt Darnold's chances of winning that job.
The bottom line for Darnold: He has more to lose than gain with a holdout. Time for him to sign and show up for work.
Still, Darnold has yet to sign his rookie contract.
