Jets rookie Leonard Williams aims to regain third-down role

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets made a subtle lineup change on defense in last week's loss to the Buffalo Bills. They removed Leonard Williams from their third-down package on obvious passing downs.

Williams still ended up playing 58 of 65 defensive snaps, so we're not talking about a seismic shift, but any adjustment involving a high draft pick is noteworthy. Quite simply, the coaches want Williams -- drafted sixth overall -- step it up as a pass-rusher.

And he doesn't disagree.

"I'm pretty good and stout on the run, but I need to work on my pass rush a little more," said Williams, who has a team-high 21 quarterback hits but only a half-sack.
