NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The New York Jets added depth at running back Tuesday, signing former first-round draft pick C.J. Spiller, according to multiple reports.
The Seattle Seahawks released Spiller last week after he spent about a month on the team. He started the season with the New Orleans Saints, but was cut after Week 1.
Earlier Tuesday, the Jets claimed former Chiefs and Packers running back Knile Davis off waivers, but he was released about 2½ hours later to make room for Spiller.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the Jets were already in talks with Spiller but claimed Davis as insurance in case the two sides could not agree to a deal.
