Jets release Devin Smith, former 2nd-round draft pick | What it means

Ten days before the Jets report to training camp, they are releasing wide receiver Devin Smith, whom they drafted in Round 2 in 2015, according to ESPN.

Smith struggled to stay healthy through three seasons with the Jets, and he was going to have to battle just to make the roster in 2018 anyway. So his release won't have a major impact on the receiver depth chart. In fact, it will have essentially zero impact on it.

But the move is an admission by Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan that Smith was yet another failed second-round draft pick by the organization.
