The Jets placed outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin on injured reserve on Monday.
Mauldin missed most of training camp and every preseason game with a back injury he initially suffered on Aug. 5 and then re-injured Aug. 14.
The Jets could bring Mauldin back this season, as teams are allowed to bring two players back from IR. They no longer have to designate that player when they are placed on IR. Only players placed on IR after cuts are made on Saturday are eligible, which is why the Jets waited.
Mauldin, a third-round pick in 2015, was viewed as the favorite to start on the outside at the beginning of training camp after a mostly disappointing first two NFL seasons.
