The Jets made a splash Friday in the NFL draft’s second round, selecting Christian Hackenberg, a polarizing quarterback out of Penn State.
Gang Green have been in a contract stalemate with free-agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Now, after their 51st-overall selection, they either have leverage on him or they could move away from the veteran.
Hackenberg had a brilliant freshman season for the Nittany Lions, but had major struggles his last two seasons. His raw talent has been praised, but his stock plummeted when he didn’t soar in coach James Franklin’s system.
