Jets owner waiting longer than an NFL season for Trump post

WASHINGTON -- New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has waited longer to become U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom than it took his football team to play an entire National Football League season.

Johnson, a major fundraiser for Donald Trump's campaign and his inaugural, has waited around 140 days for the president to formally nominate him, as he announced he would do in January shortly before his inauguration. The regular NFL season lasts 17 weeks, or 119 days.

"No prior president has been very fast in getting their team in place but this president has been slower than any other," said Max Stier, chief executive of the Partnership for Public Service, which works with both political parties to try to improve how government works.
