Jets' owner tweaks U.S. senator who revealed taxpayer-financed troop salutes

WASHINGTONNew York Jets owner Woody Johnson tweeted a shot at the U.S. senator who exposed the Pentagon's practice of paying his football team to honor the military.

Johnson responded to an interview given by U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who singled out the Jets' deal with the Defense Department and the New Jersey Army National Guard as an example of wasteful taxpayer spending.

The senator told the Arizona PBS station that the Republican National Committee should shift resources away from presidential nominee Donald Trump and instead use the money to keep Republicans in control of the Senate, as the GOP did in 1996 when it was apparent that its nominee, Bob Dole, would lose to President Bill Clinton.
