FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The Jets announced the signing of running back C.J. Spiller and the release of Tuesday’s waiver-claim pickup, Knile Davis.
Because the Jets had to wait until 4 p.m. Wednesday to make the transaction official, Spiller was not at practice. Todd Bowles said it’s too early “too early to tell” if the veteran back will be active Sunday against the Dolphins. “I view him as the third back right now,” said the coach, though he added that Spiller can return kicks if needed.
Asked if the Spiller signing was due to concern over lingering injuries with Matt Forte (knee) and Bilal Powell (turf toe), Bowles said no.
