When a team uses a second-round draft pick on a player, the expectation is that player will quickly emerge as a contributor, eventually become a starter and perhaps evolve into an impact player. None of that transpired with receiver Devin Smith, and his brief, tortured time with the Jets is at an end. Less than two weeks before training camp, Smith will be released, according to ESPN.
Unable to stay healthy and get on the field, Smith’s production in three seasons with the Jets was meager: 14 games (only three starts), 10 receptions for 135 yards and one touchdown.
