The Jets chose Bryce Petty as the odd man out of their crowded quarterback depth chart.
Petty is expected to be released by the Jets on Thursday, The Post’s Brian Costello reported, after a season in which he assumed starting duties for the injured Josh McCown and failed to deliver in the final three games.
The Jets have chosen to hang onto their 2016 second-round pick, Christian Hackenberg, for now even though he hasn’t shown any promise in two preseasons with the team. Drafting Sam Darnold with the No. 3 pick last week, signing Teddy Bridgewater in free agency and re-signing veteran Josh McCown made Petty expendable.
