Jets outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin, 24, was charged with misdemeanor assault Wednesday after he turned himself in to New York City police.
Mauldin turned himself in at 8:50 a.m., according to a New York police spokesperson.
The charge stems from an April 2 incident at the Highline Ballroom, where a 22-year-old man, Jean Lopez, alleges that Mauldin punched him in the face. Mauldin's attorney, Mitch Schuster, has said Mauldin did not punch Lopez.
Mauldin punched Lopez with a "closed fist," and caused "swelling and bruising" around his left eye with one blow, according to the arrest report quoted by the spokesperson.
