Leonard Williams knows he has big shoes to fill.
When he was drafted, Williams was only reinforcing a position of depth for the Jets. But that all changed when Sheldon Richardson received a four-game suspension in July for a failed marijuana test (and changed again when Richardson was arrested later that month). Suddenly, the sixth overall pick has been thrust into the limelight and a starting role.
“I’m that guy that has to be in his spot now,” Williams said. “There’s added pressure being in that spot.”
He played most of the first quarter in Thursday’s preseason loss to the Lions, but it was not Williams’ best showing.
