Jets hire new special teams coach, their fifth in five seasons

SAN FRANCISCO — The Jets have hired Brant Boyer as their new special teams coordinator, according to a source.

Boyer replaces Bobby April, who was fired after just one season with the team. Boyer, who never has been a coordinator, has spent the past four seasons as the assistant special teams coach for the Colts. He was a training camp intern for the Giants in 2010.

Boyer played for the Dolphins, Jaguars and Browns from 1994-2003. He crossed paths with Jets head coach Todd Bowles in Cleveland. Bowles coached there from 2001-03, the same years Boyer was a special teams standout for the team.
