Jets hire Jeremy Bates as quarterbacks coach

The Jets have made it official: Jeremy Bates is their new quarterbacks coach. The team announced the move via Twitter. Bates was rumored to be the frontrunner for the job earlier this week.

Bates, 40, is a bit of an outside-the-box hire for the Jets. He hasn't coached the last four years, and last served as the Bears quarterbacks coach in 2012. Before that, he bounced around.

Bates was the Seahawks' offensive coordinator in 2010. He was the Broncos quarterbacks coach (2008), receivers/quarterbacks coach (2007) and offensive assistant (2006).
