CHICAGO — It was as surreal a moment as there’s ever been around the New York Jets — and if you are even remotely familiar with, shall we say, the Jets’ colorful history, that is saying something.

His team had played an almost perfect first half, but early in the second a bizarre decision by the coach — snapping the ball to Mark Sanchez, the up-back in a punt formation — had backfired horribly.
