Sheldon Richardson’s arrest in mid-July blindsided the Jets organization as the 24-year-old defensive lineman kept the incident to himself, not even telling his own parents about it. That secrecy, combined with the shocking particulars of the incident itself and his four-game suspension for failing a drug test has caused trust issues from the organization’s standpoint.
“We do worry about Sheldon in terms of the decisions he’s made off the field,” first-year general manager Mike Maccagnan said Saturday before the Jets’ first padded practice of training camp. “There is a degree of trust that’s been broken, but we’re supportive of him, and there’s a lot of resources in this building that we want to make available to him.
