Jets free-agent safety Antonio Allen visits Texans

Jets free-agent safety Antonio Allen is visiting the Houston Texans on Tuesday, a source confirmed to Newsday.

The hard-hitting safety spent the 2015 season on injured reserve after undergoing surgery for a torn Achilles tendon.

Allen, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the Jets in 2012. He recorded 118 tackles, 13 passes defensed and 2.5 sacks and played special teams. His development, however, was stunted when former Jets coach Rex Ryan benched him in favor of aging safety Ed Reed in 2013 and later converted Allen to cornerback because of the team’s lack of depth at the position.
