It turned out that Bobby April wasn’t safe, after all.
Despite Todd Bowles saying on Monday he expected his entire staff to return in 2016, the coach elected to fire April, his special teams coordinator, on Wednesday after a dismal special teams year. The team also let go of assistant special teams coordinator Steve Hagen and assistant offensive line coach Ron Heller — two holdovers from the Rex Ryan regime. This was April's first year with the Jets.
“After having our season-ending meetings with the staff, I decided that changes were necessary in these areas," Bowles said in a statement released by the team.
