The Jets quarterbacks owned the spotlight on opening night, but the defense could become the season’s headlining act.
While Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater both had impressive Jets debuts, the defense may have been even better, pitching its first-ever home preseason shutout in Friday night’s 17-0 win over the Falcons at MetLife Stadium.
Though the Jets are in the rare position of carrying multiple quarterbacks who seem capable of leading the offense, each carries questions marks. Darnold is a rookie. Bridgewater hasn’t played in two seasons. Josh McCown is 39, and has posted a 23-50 career record as a starter.
