Jets cut Spencer Long and save $3 million as decisions begin

Spencer Long is out of a job and a few million.

On Tuesday, the Jets released the offensive lineman, who was due a $3 million bonus if he was on the roster Wednesday.

The Jets will save about $6.5 million by releasing the 28-year-old, who began the season at center but suffered injuries that affected his snapping ability. He then switched to left guard and Jonotthan Harrison replaced him.

A reunion is still possible with the fifth-year pro, though the Jets will be looking for a reduced rate. The Jets signed him last offseason, after he spent his first four seasons in Washington, to a four-year, $28 million deal that vanished fast.
