Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie was forced out of Sunday’s season-opener with a left knee injury.
The 31-year-old Cromartie was in coverage and went down without any contact early in the second quarter of Sunday’s opener against Cleveland. He started banging the MetLife Stadium turf in pain, and after being attended to by five trainers, eventually was helped to the sidelines without putting any weight on his injured leg.
The four-time Pro Bowl defensive back was carted to the locker room with a towel over his face, and appeared to be crying as he left the field.
Cromartie had played four seasons with the Jets before leaving last season for Arizona, where he played under defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.
