Jets cornerback Trumaine Johnson won't play against Broncos on Sunday

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders have grabbed hold of 1,137 passes between them in their NFL careers. The Jets won’t have Trumaine Johnson out there Sunday at MetLife Stadium to try to prevent the two Denver receivers from adding to their numbers.

The $72.5-million newcomer at cornerback suffered a quad strain in practice Thursday. Johnson sat out Friday and was ruled out for the game. The Jets will see how he feels after that.

“Any time you lose a starter, it’s a big deal,” coach Todd Bowles said. “But we have guys that played over the past couple of years that we like in [Darryl] Roberts and Buster [Skrine] and [Parry] Nickerson as well as [Juston] Burris … Next guy up.
