Jets coach says Geno Smith must compete for starting QB job

There’s competition confusion in Florham Park.

A week after offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said the Jets won’t have a quarterback competition, head coach Todd Bowles said they will. To a degree, anyway.

It looks like Geno Smith will have to earn the starting Jets QB job after all, after coach Todd Bowles said there'll be an 'open competition' at the position during training camp.

On Wednesday Bowles described the Jets training camp plan at quarterback as an “open competition,” though it won’t be a 50-50 battle.
