The Jets are being kept from interviewing one of their coaching candidates.
The University of Southern California has so far denied the Jets and Cardinals the opportunity to interview its offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, according to ESPN.
NFL teams were informed by the owners last month – based on an old rule – that they now have to request permission from school’s athletic directors to interview college coaches, according to the ESPN report. Failing to put in the request and get approval could lead to draft picks being taken away or other disciplinary action.
The Jets have already interviewed former Dolphins coach Adam Gase, Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and were set to sit down with former Packers coach Mike McCarthy on Saturday.
