Head coach Todd Bowles wasn’t kidding about adding speed on the edge. A source confirmed to Newsday that the team has reached an agreement Friday on a two-year deal with former Canadian Football League defensive lineman Freddie Bishop III.
A native of Inkster, Michigan, Bishop (6-3, 255 pounds) had a breakout season for the Calgary Stampeders in 2015, recording 11 sacks, 44 tackles and forced fumble in 16 games. The Western Michigan alum is projected as to play linebacker in the NFL. Bishop, 25, joined the Stampeders in 2014, recording three sacks in nine games. For his career, he’s accumulated 14 sacks in 25 games and was a Grey Cup champion in 2014.
