The Jets promoted Jeremy Bates to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach on Wednesday.
Bates, 41, served as the quarterbacks coach last season and was praised by coach Todd Bowles for his work with veteran starter Josh McCown and backups Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. Bates replaces John Morton, who was let go after one season as the offensive coordinator.
The Jets offense struggled for much of last season under Morton. They finished 19th in rushing (106.4 yards), 24th in points (18.6) and 24th in passing (198.9). There was some grumbling among the players, including running back Matt Forte, about the play-calling.
