Jay Feely will try to make you hate NFL kickers less

It’s take two for CBS’ Thursday night team.

Though not a direct swap, the biggest broadcast change you’ll see for Thursday’s Jets-Bills game is the addition of kicking expert Jay Feely and the removal of officiating expert Mike Carey. Feely will hope to avoid the internet scorn that so often attached to Carey’s appearances and ultimately led to his ouster.

Feely, who also calls college games for the network, will appear at crucial special teams moments throughout the Thursday NFL broadcasts this season and likely into the playoffs, as he did last season.

“Special teams and kicking, especially in a league with so much parity, there is a lot of interest in it and educating the viewers into why a kicker misses or makes a kick or why he’s struggling or what a special teams coach is trying to do and how he’s going to be successful and take advantage of the other team,” said Feely, who joins Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and Tracy Wolfson for the broadcast.
