In April, 2006, the New York Jets were so intrigued by Jay Cutler as a potential franchise quarterback that an entourage of decision-makers flew to Nashville to meet with the Vanderbilt star a couple of weeks before the draft. The group included owner Woody Johnson, who usually doesn't make scouting trips. They did the usual field/classroom testing and dined at a local steak house. Cutler ordered a New York strip.
When it was their turn to pick, the Jets passed on Cutler, opting for D'Brickashaw Ferguson with the fourth overall choice. Months later, I heard they didn't come away from that meeting with a great feeling about Cutler.
