FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The World Series will put an end to one of the longest championship droughts in American sports. Which team will celebrate a curse-crushing victory, the Chicago Cubs (108 years) or Cleveland Indians (68 years)?
"I'm rooting for the Cubs," John Schmitt said this week. "Why not? Maybe it'll help our karma."
Schmitt was the starting center for the 1968 New York Jets, who captured Super Bowl III in historic fashion. The Jets haven't won a title since then. Barring a miracle recovery, this will be their 48th year without a championship.
