How Eagles’ miniature energy burst saved their season

The smallest player on the MetLife Stadium turf Sunday made the biggest contribution — and helped save the Eagles’ season in the process.

With previously winless Philadelphia clinging to a 3-0 lead and already looking sluggish on offense for the third straight week, Darren Sproles came to the Birds’ rescue with an 89-yard punt return for a touchdown that jump-started them to a 24-17 win over the Jets.

It was the second-longest punt return for a score in franchise history, and couldn’t have come at a better time for a coach and a team staring into the abyss of a season-crushing 0-3 start.
