Geno does positional drills for first time since jaw injury

Geno Smith took one step closer to the game field on Monday.

The Jets quarterback, who suffered a broken jaw at the hands of IK Enemkpali on Aug. 7, had a helmet with him and participated in positional drills for the first time since the injury on Monday.

Smith had surgery to repair his broken jaw on Aug. 13 and Todd Bowles initially estimated that the quarterback would miss 6 to 10 weeks as a result, which would have put Smith back between Week 3 and Week 7 of the regular season. Certainly, Bowles will be asked if that timetable has changed when he addresses the media later on Monday.
