Austin Seferian-Jenkins pulled a Mark McGwire on Thursday. He wouldn’t talk about the past, his two DUI arrests and possible drinking problem, but the former Buccaneers tight end also made it clear he understands he is fortunate to have found a new team so quickly after his arrest last week. In a six-minute interview with Jets reporters, he used the words “thankful” and “opportunity” 17 and 12 times, respectively.
“I have to hold up my end of the bargain and do what’s expected of me,” Seferian-Jenkins said, without offering any specifics, after his first practice with the Jets.
