In an expected move, the New York Jets have waived/injured wide receiver Devin Smith, setting up his likely return on injured reserve.
Smith, who recently underwent ACL surgery for the second time in 16 months on the same knee, probably will clear waivers. At that point, he will go on the Jets' IR list. This was a procedural move that saves them from having to use a spot on the 90-man roster.
A second-round pick in 2015, Smith was diagnosed with a torn ACL on April 17, the first day of the team's offseason program.
