Former first-round pick Quinton Coples waived by Jets

Quinton Coples, an outside linebacker and former first-round draft pick of the Jets, was waived Monday, the team announced.

Coples, who was in his fourth season with the Jets, played in 10 games this season, including two starts. He made eight tackles with no sacks and had a fumble recovery. Coples recorded 16.5 sacks his first three seasons, including a career-high 6.5 in 2014.

The Jets selected Coples, a star defensive end at North Carolina, with the 16th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Coples was the second defensive end taken in the draft, one spot behind Bruce Irvin, who went 15th to the Seahawks.
