Devin Smith Making the Switch to No. 19

Smith is wearing the number at today's practice, the first of three leading up to Sunday's season opener against the Browns, but he's still rehabbing from broken ribs suffered during training camp.

Smith, who wore No. 9 in his four seasons as an Ohio State long-ball threat, wore 84 since arriving as the Jets' second-round draft selection in May.

One note on Smith's new number. After Keyshawn Johnson left following the 1999 season, three other wideouts wore No. 19 for the Jets in the regular season: Chris Davis for two games in 2007, Eron Riley for one game in 2011, and Clyde Gates for 17 games in 2012-13.
