In the case of Metro Exodus, it is conceivable that more players than usual feel morally legitimated to resort to black copy now. That’s because many disagree with publisher Deep Silver’s release policy: Metro Exodus should actually be on Steam. Shortly before the start, however, it was decided to distribute it (except pre-orders) exclusively for one year via the Epic Game Store.
This does not fit with many players, which is why they gave the title negative user ratings on all possible platforms – in the scene, that’s called Review Bombing. Forums have also written many gamers that they want to buy Metro Exodus only after the year on Steam.
