Darnold mania has not changed the ever-cautious Todd Bowles

Todd Bowles did his best to halt the Sam Darnold hype train Wednesday.

Since the Jets’ 48-17 win over the Lions on Monday night, there has been a rush to pronounce Darnold as the savior the Jets have been searching for since Joe Namath left town four decades ago.

Bowles’ message to those doing so? Slow down.

“It’s only been one game,” Bowles said. “To sit here and say whether he’s great or whether he’s trash or whether he’s anything else is kind of way too early for that.”

Darnold bounced back from a rough start to his career when he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown on the first play of the game.
