FLORHAM PARK -- Jets strong safety Calvin Pryor was not present Tuesday as organized team activities practices began.
Coach Todd Bowles declined to say why Pryor was absent, or if he knew beforehand that Pryor would not attend Tuesday. Bowles said he hadn't heard from Pryor on Tuesday.
"It's voluntary," Bowles said. "He doesn't have to tell me anything [in advance]. I just coach the guys that are here."
Bowles said Pryor participated in previous workout sessions this offseason. Tuesday's opening of OTAs marked a ramping-up of the Jets' practice action, with 11-on-11 team periods.
