Between the fast start by Chris Ivory and the exciting acquisitions of Stevan Ridley (Patriots) and Zac Stacy (Rams), it was easy to overlook Bilal Powell, the fifth year running back and former fourth round pick out of Louisville, especially after he was plagued early in the year by an ankle sprain. However, a season ending ankle injury to Stacy and Ridley’s struggle to get back into form following last year’s ACL surgery opened the door for Powell to become the main complement to Ivory in the backfield. In yesterday’s thrilling 23-20 OT win over the crosstown Giants, Powell found himself playing an integral role in the Jets’ offense.
